Doesn’t Always Mean You Can’t
I know that many teachers never dream of teaching swimming. I get that. I know too though, that with the sort of support and understanding I offer, we can build the reassurance and confidence it takes to do what lots have done before them. Share in and make a difference to their pupils’ swimming achievements and success.
I have over 30 years experience as a swimming teacher, coach and tutor for Swim England Qualifications. I was a schoolteacher for over 20 years and have been a swimming development manager with the National Governing Body for Swimming and with Somerset Activity and Sports Partnership. I am currently the University of Exeter lecturer for swimming on the PGCE Secondary PE course.
I have a proven track record for delivering high quality CPD training for Primary Schools. I still get a buzz from sharing the satisfaction and excitement that comes when staff become more involved. In so many ways, they are the best people to teach their classes to swim.

They have been specifically designed and created for staff in schools to enable them, on a number of levels, to improve outcomes for their pupils in school swimming lessons.
In times of dwindling budgets and resources the training offers great value for money and may even save schools money.
What We Do in the Shallows
(And in the Deep End too)
- Choose from 5 short, two hour, ‘hands on’ ‘in the pool’ CPDs. Friday afternoons 1.30 – 3.30pm at Quantock Lodge Pool.
- All attendees are invited to get in the pool to practice, though it’s not a requirement.
- You are invited to stay on and observe or even work with our teachers in our Swim School which runs 4-6.30 pm.
Each course costs £45 per person.
Core Curriculum Training
- These are courses designed to train and equip primary school teachers and assistants especially, to be more involved in school swimming lessons – and in a range of roles.
- As assistants, teachers, coordinators and liaison between provider and school.
- Bespoke courses are available for whole school, academy or federation training.
- Costs include the innovative teacher resource: Small Steps to Successful swimming.
Costs vary from £90 per learner for one day courses to £500 for up 6 school based learners.
All attendees have exclusive access to valuable online resources, free follow up access to tutor support and are invited to join a schoolteachers’ forum to share experience and resources

All our learning activities focus on relevant knowledge, competence and understanding to support improved delivery of curriculum swimming programmes and improved outcomes for pupils.
The training meets Government /DfE, National Governing Body/Swim Group criteria and recommendations for the PE National Curriculum requirements for Water Safety and Swimming.
Each Learner receives evidence of the learning activities undertaken.
