September 2026 Update
Hi,
Well, schools are back and summer break is over.
We hope everyone managed to have some good times together.
We hope it is going well for all those changing schools and teachers too.
We have been busy and made over 60 changes over the last month, either moving days, times, classes or making spaces for new swimmers.
Unless you have been contacted separately or have requested a change, classes and times will remain the same.
Although we are having to start back a bit later than usual it is still going to be a 10 week term of lessons.
So it will be £67.00 per swimmer for this next term.
Dates are listed here
Thanks to those who have already paid
We look forward to seeing new faces as well as all those we already know
Kind regards
Colin, Jamie, Meg, Ellie, Vicki and Kirsty.
August 2025 Update
Several years ago now an opportunity popped up to provide a lessons programme on Fridays. Four of us took on the challenge.
We started with just 19 children and two 30 minute lessons. Twelve of them are still with us – all grown up of course!!
Today we have over 100 on Fridays – in three hours 4- 7 pm.
We can honestly say it continues to be not only a privilege but a pleasure and often a delight to work with lovely families and lovely enthusiastic children.
Four months ago we were approached again to repeat the success over four more days.
For that to work we needed more teachers who understood the ingredients of our success and were happy to work with our approaches to teaching swimming.
Now we are Seven !
We have a swimschool which runs every day of the week during term time.
Fridays were our rock and our benchmark for success.
We have also reshaped school swimming lessons programmes at Quantock Lodge and Kings College Pool and run programmes at both venues.
It was a crushing start, with swim school however. We were passed registers and details of over 200 swimmers. Imagine our shock and confusion when just 120 returned. Several on the list it turned out were no longer swimming, a couple were double entries, nevertheless it was a dropout rate unprecedented in my long experience and shock to our systems.
Our business plan had just completely collapsed: the teachers who had come together to run the programme and the pool manager were immediately informed that even on the national minimum wage we were set to lose almost £400 a week.
For the record, every teacher replied to say they were committed to the new programmes and were prepared to take their chances. The agreed to work together to rebuild. Working for half the minimum wage or less was not a problem, they said. I still get a shiver when I recall that! I will never forget it.
We still have that team spirit.
Then Duncan at Quantock Lodge offered us a lifeline of a generous discount on pool time…
11 weeks later, here we are; we managed to balance the books and the best news is that we are still building…
We want to thank everyone who gave us the benefit of doubt , reassured us that their children were loving their lessons and shared it with friends and other families who came to join us.
As we approach the new term, it does not look as if it will be long before we hit our target of 300 children in lessons.
We value feedback and hope people will continue to share your thoughts and comments with us.
We are all looking forward to starting back in September.
